The Secret: Perseverence, by Jay Quine

Persevere, post by Quine

Romans 5:3-4  From Perseverance  to Hope

I often tell new students that going to College requires perseverance.  I tell them to expect challenges, both from the circumstances found in the pressures of higher ed, and the people God brings into their lives.  The challenge to meet the due date for an assignment is part of what God uses to mold students into leaders of industry.  It is not only the course work where the learning goes on, but in the perseverance.  Sometimes they have to persevere unreasonable professors or classmates.  Persevering with respect to people is also part of the learning.  Whatever difficult circumstance, or unreasonable person you may be facing today, let me, Dr. Jay Quine help you to remember not to quit, but persevere.  It may not seem so, but God will not give you a situation to persevere through that you are not able to handle (1Corinthians 10:13).  You know it is true, now trust it to be so.

Lights–Camera–Action!  Expel the darkness, and light up your world.

If you get up in the middle of the night, you turn on the light.  That way you don’t bump into the wall or fall down the stairs.  We rely on street lights, and car lights to drive at night.  Lamps help us navigate.  We also turn on the lights when we are frightened, or hear a strange noise in the house.  With light, there is safety.

The Bible Lights Your Life's Road

The great Psalmist David used the word “lamp” in those ways.  He wrote, “You are my lamp, O’ Lord.”  Indicating that God protects from our enemies like a light would at night.  David also said, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet.”  Rather than bump into a wall in life, the word of God sheds light on our path.   The Lord is your lamp; his word lights your path.

Mom said, “Don’t play with matches.”  And taught us to look both ways when crossing the street!  She wanted to keep us safe, alive and well.  But she did more than that. The Bible describes the good mom is the one who gives instruction.  “Do not forsake the instruction of your mother,” says Proverbs 1:8.

The word for “instruction” is the word “torah.”  Mom’s teaching comes from the torah… the Law of God.  Her teaching warns us about the wrong crowd that, like crabs in a bucket, they will grab hold of you and drag  you down as you try to rise above the others.  “You pick your friends,” mom said, “don’t let them pick you.”

Remember the word and wisdom of your mother.  Listen to the law of God mom taught you.  It could save your life.

The Holy Spirit depicted as a dove, surrounded...

Guests that stay too long often end up like fish –  it stinks.  But there is a guest who will reside with you forever.  In fact, He will even help your remodeling project!

Moving to Houston we looked for a new house.  We found a structurally sound residence but it needed extensive remodeling.  We first had to live somewhere else before we could make it our permanent dwelling.

The Bible tells us that God does just the opposite with us.  The moment we believe in Christ as our Savior the Holy Spirit indwells us.  We become a new residence through whom God will do his work.  But he doesn’t wait until after the remodeling is done, He indwells us to bring life transformation to our mortal bodies.  It is the Spirit of God, the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, who now lives in you.  A new resident with new life indwelling a new house—even you.

Don’t worry — He will not ever seem to be staying too long.  You will continue to make room for Him — and it never stinks.
